Liverpool came back to defeat Southampton 3-1 at Anfield, with Darwin Nunez playing a crucial role despite calls from some sections for him to be sent off. The visitors opened the scoring through Kyle Walker-Peters following a misunderstanding between Virgil van Dijkand Alisson.

Van Dijk looked to have dealt with a throw in and he left the ball for Alisson to collect, before Mateus Fernandes pounced ahead of the Brazilian goalkeeper. Smallbone then fired a low shot home.

The Uruguay international went on to redeem himself, scoring the equaliser in the 51st minute and also winning a penalty for his team minutes later. Mohamed Salah made no mistake from the spot to move into third place of all-time Liverpool top-scorers - surpassing Gordon Hodgson.

He added to his tally by converting a second goal - also from the spot - with two minutes from time. The Egyptian has now scored 243 goals for the club since arriving at Anfield in 2017.
