Arsenal achieved their longest unbeaten run in the Premier League since 2011 as Mikel Merino’s late brace dealt the final blows to Leicester City.
Ethan Nwaneri looked the most likely to score in the contest as he struck the woodwork twice in his first full 90 minutes for The Gunners this campaign.
The Foxes’ best chance came when Jordan Ayew flashed a ball across the six-yard box, with Bobby De Cordova-Reid waiting for a straightforward tap-in.
However, Myles Lewis-Skelly kept his balance and positioned himself well to divert the ball away from danger at the back post.
It was an injury crisis which had worsened after Arsenal’s ten-day break away from action, and Mikel Arteta was forced to be creative in his starting lineup, and ultimately in his substitutions in attacking areas.
Nwaneri registered his first assist for The Gunners this season by delivering a pin-point cross for Mikel Merino to open the scoring.
The Spanish midfielder was called up in the 69th minute to play in the striker position and the three points were saved by his contributions.
Leandro Trossard directed an early ball towards Merino who scored his second of the afternoon six minutes later in the 87th minute.
He was waiting in the wings and was not expected to be the solution to Arsenal's lack of goals in the game, but he proved that he could play in the striker role and do a really good job in key moments.
Merino can "smell danger"
The Spaniard spoke to one of the assistant coaches before the match who said that he may be deployed as a number-nine depending on the context of the game.
He was anticipating that this could happen, but his two goals certainly surpassed his and his manager’s expectations.
With just over 20 minutes to make an impact, Arteta recognised his traits could suit the position, and how well Merino got into the right positions and took his chances.
"Mikel obviously made a huge impact to score the two goals."
"He’s a goal threat because he can smell danger, he can anticipate the action, he’s got really good timing to arrive into certain areas and then he obviously has the capacity to execute with that part of his body. He needed the delivery, certainly had that as well and he put it into the back of the net."

In the two moments that decided the outcome of the match, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly stepped up when they were needed most.
The teenage midfielder-turned-left-back has kept Ricardo Calafiori out of his place again in the Premier League, and the mistaken red card against Wolves seems to have bolstered him even more.
He was positioned in the right place at the right time to prevent his team from going a goal behind at the King Power Stadium, providing a "magic touch," as Mikel Arteta put it like he had played that position all his life.
